Better coatings are now possible with the new true supersonic Mach 3 HVAF gun. Generating 50% higher jet velocity as compared to second generation HVAF guns, such as SB9500 and M2, the M3’s particle velocities exceed 1000 m/sec. Higher kinetic energy of solid particles means higher contact pressures upon impact against a substrate, resulting in better adhesion and cohesion. This dramatically improves physical and mechanical properties of the coatings. For instance, hardness of WC-based coatings applied with agglomerated and sintered powder by M3 gun is increased to over 1450 HV300, which is a 30-35% improvement compared to previous generation guns.
The M3 measures and precisely controls particle temperature, eliminating all guess work from coating application, allowing exceptionally consistent coatings every time. The M3 can spray HVOF cut WC-based and Cr3C2-based powders (-45+15µm) with DE up to 75%, while also being able to accommodate fine cut powders and materials with lower melting temperatures.
